Katland’s journey is a powerful testament to the impact of community, faith, and dedicated support. What began as a search for a place to feed her family and find an outlet turned into a life-changing experience when she connected with Love INC.
A lifelong Delaware resident, Katland faced an overwhelming setback when the mobile home where her family lived was condemned and removed after their landlord chose not to renew the lease. Suddenly without stable housing, the family found themselves navigating homelessness and an uncertain future. Through a referral from her pastor, Katland connected with Love INC and began working with Case Management during one of the most difficult seasons of her life.
During this time, Katland discovered the many ways Love INC serves the community. One of the resources her family utilized was Code Orange, an emergency drop-in service that Love INC opened during dangerously hot weather to provide a safe, cool space for those in need. It was through experiences like this that Katland learned just how much Love INC had to offer.
Through Love INC, Katland found much more than she expected. The support from Case Management made life feel more manageable, providing guidance, encouragement, housing resources, and practical support. Case Management helped her replace important documents, navigate housing applications, and connect with community resources. As local housing options became increasingly limited for a family of their size, Love INC continued walking alongside them every step of the way.
When local housing opportunities were exhausted, a friend in Massachusetts offered temporary housing and support. Love INC helped coordinate resources to assist with the family's move and continued providing encouragement and monthly check-ins even after they relocated. Throughout the process, Katland felt seen, valued, and supported. One of her favorite aspects of the support she received was prayer, and she appreciated having someone who genuinely cared about her family's well-being.
Throughout the journey, doors began to open. Her husband's disability appeal was approved, providing much-needed income stability. Family relationships were restored, including a renewed connection with her brothers. Eventually, circumstances led the family back to Delaware, where her older brother offered them the former family home.
With the help of Love INC and the support of family, Katland and her family secured permanent housing in the very house her husband grew up in. They were able to get a well installed and are currently remodeling. Although she notes they are "so far from being done, but getting there," she proudly shares, "We have stability again."
A car accident renewed her desire to gain more out of life. Through her faith in God, family relationships were rebuilt, and the family dynamic was strengthened. A special joy was being able to take their animals with them, keeping the family whole.
Today, Katland continues to reflect on God's protection and provision over her family throughout their journey. She has repeatedly expressed deep gratitude for the support she received through Love INC's Case Management program, sharing that the guidance, encouragement, and accountability helped her navigate an extremely difficult and transitional season of life. While she is no longer actively enrolled in Case Management, she knows Love INC remains a source of support should she need it in the future. Looking ahead, she remains hopeful and focused on building a brighter future for her family.
Katland has clear goals for the future: getting a new house on the property, saving money, and remembering to breathe. She still has some needs, like a new fridge or deep freezer, but her outlook is overwhelmingly positive.

Katland encourages others to keep a positive mindset. She advises people to "think on the positives, find light in the bad, and be thankful." For anyone struggling, she shares a powerful message: "There is light at the end of the tunnel. Just call and go to Love INC. You have to do the work... it's worth it in the end."
Her story reminds us of the power of community, faith, and perseverance. It also serves as a reminder that lasting change happens when people walk alongside one another through life's challenges.
